Arts & culture
Toronto has a buzzing arts and culture scene, with plenty for students to explore. The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), right by the University of Toronto, offers free admission to eligible post-secondary students on Tuesdays, while Ontario residents under 25 can visit the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) for free.
Beyond the big museums, wander through the colourful street art of Graffiti Alley off Queen Street West or discover the latest exhibitions at OCAD University’s galleries. And each September, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) brings some of the biggest names in film to the city, making it one of the highlights of Toronto’s cultural calendar.

Entertainment
There’s no shortage of things to do in Toronto. When the weather’s good, take the ferry to the Toronto Islands for beaches, bike rides and amazing skyline views. If you need a break from studying, spend an afternoon in High Park or explore the waterfront along Lake Ontario.
You can also head up the CN Tower or browse the shops, cafés and street art around Queen Street West. Sports fans can catch the Raptors, Maple Leafs or Blue Jays in action downtown, while Toronto’s nightlife has plenty to offer too. Head to Ossington for bars and restaurants, explore the Entertainment District for a bigger night out, or catch live music at venues like the Horseshoe Tavern and Danforth Music Hall.

Food and drink
Toronto’s food scene is one of the best things about living in the city, with flavours from around the world and plenty of casual spots to try. Head to Kensington Market for tacos, empanadas, cafés and street food, explore neighbouring Chinatown for noodles and dim sum, or make your way to Koreatown on Bloor for Korean BBQ and bibimbap.
For a true taste of Toronto, don’t miss St. Lawrence Market. Grab a famous peameal bacon sandwich – a local classic – or wander the stalls and pick up something new to try. With so many different neighbourhoods and cuisines to explore, there’s always somewhere new to eat.
